From your island dome, you’ll fall asleep to these rhythms and wake as light skims across Annabessacook Lake. Days unfold to a steady beat: cooking simple meals, drifting in hammocks just above the water, paddling the shoreline, and wandering the wooded trails of our 14-acre island. No headphones required.

Many thanks to Joanne and Kent for an amazing camping experience! It was a treat to not be setting up a tent and also having a bed to sleep in. They supply cooking apparatus as well as some other amenities which made packing for this trip a breeze!<br/> It was great to have them on the island with us. They are pretty invisible unless you want the company which was great. Conversations with these two are wonderful! They are such genuine people who care so much for the environment. We learned a lot from our time on the island and also got some well needed rest. Their dog Shadow was such a great host as well! We loved having him hanging out with us when he felt like it!<br/> The island is such a gem and we loved the privacy and quiet atmosphere to reset for the week. Swimming, canoeing, spectacular sunrises and sunsets, and fires at night were just a few of the things we enjoyed on our vacation.<br/> Everything about our stay was wonderful and we can’t wait to go back in September!
This was more beautiful and peaceful than we could have imagined. It was so nice to be secluded in a place where my dog could roam free and swim. The noise of the lions at night and waking up to a glowing sunrise made it perfect. We can’t wait to get back!

I cannot recommend staying on 1 Big Sustainable Island enough. It was very unique experience on a beautiful island. Joanne and Kent are super responsive and accommodating. The tent is so cool and the lake is beautiful. We paddled out there in our Kayaks and just absolutely enjoyed exploring the lake! Hoping to get back there soon!
Could not have asked for a better way to end our vacation than a visit to this island. For being a sustainable space it does not lack in amenities conducive to comfort, and the setting is pristine. I had particular fondness for the rope swing!!

Kent and Jo are phenomenal people. They have created an island paradise. During our stay we caught bass, canoed the lake, hiked the trails, read in the hammock and enjoyed few games of backgammon by the fire. The tent was spacious, organized, clean and well-stocked. The bonus for us was allowing our pup to run free on the island all day. We cannot wait to get back to the 1BSI - we are hooked :)
Joanne and Kent are superb, interesting, wonderful people. Their island is just INSANELY beautiful and secluded. The tent structure reminded us of one of those $2,500 per night African Safari retreats. Wow!
Joanne and Kent, and their big-sustainable-island get-away, are marvelous. It’s more than your regular AirBNB experience, it’s a chance to connect with nature, meet some great people, and completely unplug.<br/>I thought about giving it a bad review just to keep demand for this jewel from growing out of control. But I didn’t have the heart. If you’re looking for a peaceful camping trip with warm, friendly hosts, this is the place!
One Big Sustainable Island is a unique experience. We were lucky enough to check on on the night of a full moon, and it was magic. If you want the peace and quiet and beauty of real island life, come here. Your hosts are environmentally friendly (and in general friendly) - and made the decision to keep this island pristine.
