Hammock Haven is tuned to Nature’s soundtrack — loons calling at dusk, water lapping beneath the dock, wind moving through the trees, and the occasional splash from someone giving in to the lake. From your island dome, you’ll fall asleep to these rhythms and wake as light skims across Annabessacook Lake. Days unfold to a steady beat: cooking simple meals, drifting in hammocks just above the water, paddling the shoreline, and wandering the wooded trails of our 14-acre island. No headphones required.

You should be prepared to relax and unwind surrounded by Maine's natural beauty just 15 minutes away from Augusta! Jo and Kent were wonderful, welcoming, and accommodating hosts who made us feel right at home. Hemlock Haven was a great, private spot with nice afternoon sun and our site was just a few steps away from a place to swim. Although there were other people staying at the additional sites, we felt like we had the island to ourselves - it was lovely!
This place is AMAZING! It is absolutely worth every single penny. From the cozy bed to the sunsets and the serene views it is beyond beautiful. If you like camping you will LOVE this Airbnb, it is all of the best parts of camping without all of the hassle. They provide every single thing you may need. While there is no WiFi there is great cell service if you should need your phone. Kent and Jo are so delightful! So knowledgeable about the lake and local wildlife. They are very accommodating stopping by to ask if we needed anything and bringing us water when we ran out. We cannot wait to go back!!
Joanne and Kent were marvelous hosts. They welcomed us to their little utopia that they have created in central Maine. The lake was welcoming for swimming, kayaking and canoeing. Exploring the island to find the little nooks and crannies was fun and included discovering rope swings, hammocks and benches placed in wonderful places, including a bench placed on a large rock at waters edge to watch the sunset. Joanne and Kent were very easy to work with. Communication was prompt and responses were very helpful. While on the island they provided for anything we asked for, including extra water, a pan for pancakes and a portable potty for late night needs. Joanne and Kent also were very flexible and accommodating. They were respectful of our privacy but also available for conversation and sharing their own space for swimming. My dog who is a little older was in heaven and ran and played like he was 5 years younger. It is a dog’s paradise. I highly recommend this space. If you are looking for a spot to unplug, reconnect with nature and take a break from this busy world, One Sustainable Island and Hemlock Haven is the place. Thank you Joanne and Kent I will be back.
Jo and Kent are the absolute BEST! This vacation was exactly what we needed to slow down from our busy lives and relax. They also loved our dog Raven as if she was their own which is the most important thing to us! Kayaking, canoeing, walking the trails, sunset rock, rope swing, swimming, fishing, there was just so much to do and we loved it all! We can't wait to make this an every year trip ❤
The location was great the woods, the lake and the swimming was wonderful. Kent and Jo were wonderful hosts very responsive and were there to assist with anything we needed.
Hemlock Haven was our home away from home for three glorious nights. We explored the island, read books, canoed, cooked delicious meals, read, and relaxed to loon calls - all while knowing that while we felt totally alone, Jo and Kent were just a phone call away if we needed anything or had any questions. 1 Big Sustainable Island is rich with nature and history, and Jo and Kent have made it a model of sustainable practices and hospitality, all while keeping it wild. It was an absolute pleasure of a trip and we cannot wait to return with our kids.
Fantastic getaway on a peaceful lake. Tent is equipped with everything you could need & more, and the island has fun surprises like hammocks, rope swings, benches next to the water, canoe, kayaks, and a cute beach.! Joanne and Kent are wonderful people and always offered help if we needed anything. Hope to go back soon!
Jo and Kent are the nicest humans on earth. We loved staying on their island, and our two dogs loved playing with their pup. We can’t wait for this to become an annual adventure!
