We had an amazing stay at 1BSI. You can feel the love and care that Jo and Kent have put into this beautiful and unique location. I have never slept as well as I did in Hemlock Haven! We enjoyed canoeing, hiking around the island, and beautiful sunsets. Jo and Kent are some of the kindest, most genuine people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. As cliche as it sounds, our only regret was that we were unable to stay longer. We rarely travel to the same place more than once so we can experience new things, but we will definitely be returning to 1BSI!

As soon as we met Kent and Jo we knew it was going to be a great weekend. Everything was as described and exceeded all of our expectations. Kent and Jo are extremely accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. Kent helped my husband put in the canoe so he could go for a paddle while our nine month old napped. Thank you for being baby friendly and thanks to Sky and Shadow (their dogs) for providing our son with endless entertainment. We will definitely be back!

Joanne and Kent were great hosts- very thoughtful and present if any need presented itself! We loved exploring the island- fishing, listening to the loons, canoeing, and sitting by the fire.

This island is truly special. The luxury tent was stocked with everything we would need and was charming. We were warm and cozy even in mid-October. We spent our days wandering the trails, canoeing, relaxing on the hammock and enjoying the fire. Even with other guests on the island it felt completely private. We cannot wait to come back again.

Jo and Kent’s place was amazing. I am not a super experienced camper (my husband typically leads the way there), but I felt incredibly comfortable from start to finish. Jo and Kent picked us up at our car on the boat (no judgement about all of the food and big suitcases we had for a quick trip!) and ferried is straight to the island. There was an ATV at the dock that they drove to bring our luggage to the tent. Once there, we got the lay of the land. Jo even gave us a tour of the “oaktagon”, the beautiful sustainable home they have built. I had my suspicions about the compaloo initially, but it was clean and the only odor was of sawdust! For cooking, we not only had the fire with a grill, but also a Coleman camp stove. They provided two lanterns, and when I mentioned to Jo that one was dim she immediately brought over new batteries and an extra one just in case! I was worried about it being freezing in Maine in October on the water, but the tent was warm with lots of blankets. We spent two days cooking, hanging around the fire, walking around the island and appreciating the nature, canoeing, and kayaking. There’s a bald eagle nest at the next island, and I caught a glimpse of one as we were leaving! It was a magical trip. Thank you, Jo and Kent!

This place is outstanding! From the moment we booked, the communication with Joanne was excellent. She & Kent were warm and welcoming when we arrived and were available for any of our needs throughout our stay. Our tent was perfectly stocked with everything we needed and was very clean. We have two dogs that joined us for our weekend and it’s the perfect place to bring your friendly pups that love running & swimming freely. Can’t wait to go back!

If you're needing an outdoor retreat, Hemlock Haven is just the place. You'll have your own little nook on the island and all the amenities needed for your glamping experience. Walk the trails, relax at the beach, nap in the hammock, and take the canoe out for a trip around the lake. We'll definitely be back for another stay in the future!

Jo and Kent have created a little slice of heaven on their island! It’s peaceful, convenient, the perfect getaway for a few nights.
The tent had everything we needed. A comfortable queen bed, and extra blankets when we asked :) great outdoors picnic table for meals and epic card games, and a perfect hammock with a view for the sunset. Highly recommending bringing a jacket just in case the winds pick up.
Don’t forget to test out the rope swing during your stay. The water is so warm and refreshing!
