Hammock Haven is tuned to Nature’s soundtrack — loons calling at dusk, water lapping beneath the dock, wind moving through the trees, and the occasional splash from someone giving in to the lake. From your island dome, you’ll fall asleep to these rhythms and wake as light skims across Annabessacook Lake. Days unfold to a steady beat: cooking simple meals, drifting in hammocks just above the water, paddling the shoreline, and wandering the wooded trails of our 14-acre island. No headphones required.

Never think that you are too old or physically challenged to camp .
My friend and I, both seniors using canes , one of whom does not camp (ever) had the brilliant idea of going glamping . Nothing good comes from starting out with " In our defense " , but this ended well so, in our defense, we knew to put our things in a wheelbarrow and take it to the pier , we had no idea how rugged (for us ) it would be . Kent was not forewarned that we were two old women on canes . Sounds like an episode of " I Love Lucy " , right ?
That wonderful man did not bat an eye . He unpacked my car , took it to our campsite and turned around and did it again when we left . Had this been a self check in , we'd never have made it down the hill and missed out on the best two days I've had in years . You'll never know what a gift you gave us Kent , thank you .
You have to go here , even if just for a day . There are things to explore and do , kayaking and trails but we did none of that. It was heaven. The tent was beautiful. The " bathroom " was spotless and smelled fine . It was cute and nicer than I expected . You're not far from society but the island felt like another world . I will definitely be back . Thanks again Kent and Jo. FDC
Jo and Kent's place was the perfect little island getaway that we needed. Kent was amazing at communication and accommodating our schedule as we had to leave early. The place was beautiful, and the views exceeded our expectations. Kent was so friendly and helpful with transporting our belongings. Our puppy Peanut enjoyed exploring around the island and everything 1BSI had to offer. We would recommend the place to anyone that's hoping to be out in the nature for a few days to relax, and we will most definitely be back with friends and family in the future.
Perfect getaway to enjoy nature and unplug.
A beautiful island getaway! We had a great weekend canoeing, swimming and exploring the local area! Kent and Joanne have the place stocked with all the essentials. Plus waking up to the sound of the wildlife isn’t too bad! We will definitely be coming back :)
Very accommodating to emergencies and last minuets changes. It really helped relieve a lot of stress.
Great experience! Such an enjoyable version of camping, not having to bring EVERYTHING with you! I was looking to disconnect from gadgets and reconnect with nature. This was a perfect haven for R&R! :)
Great hosts. Very special spot. All the amenities and comforts of home surrounded by natural beauty. We are counting the days until our next stay!!
1BSI is a really relaxing place to stay! Comfy and super clean! The loo and shower facilities are top notch and again very clean! The lake was gorgeous! Wish we had more time to stay and relax! We stayed one night in the Hemlock Haven tent (my fav) and another in the oaktagon treehouse which was very nice as well! I’d recommend anyone looking for a peaceful stay at to check this place out!
Kent was really awesome host, very prompt with all the responses, and taking care of all our requests. We really like Kent and Jo Island, they did such a good job maintaining and put a lot of thought into developing it. If you are looking for an off-the-grid place and close to nature, we will highly recommend Kent and Jo island. As a family, we had a very good experience. Look forward to our future trips to the island.
Great little spot to unwind and enjoy solace in nature. The tent was just large enough to fit all our gear and food and cozy. The island is huge with a lot of great docks on all sides. We really enjoyed being able to use the kayaks and being able to have our dog June join us. Warmed up with the fire pit the first night and enjoyed fresh grilled corn. Hemlock Haven definitely seems to have the best views and it’s location within all the pine trees means minimal underbrush and bugs (especially nice for our dog so she wasn’t rubbing all over unwanted plants)
Unfortunately it ended up raining most of the time we were there which made for a bit of a messy, damp area. The tent stayed dry, but it was hard not to get dirt/pine needles everywhere and cooking outside in the rain wasn’t ideal. It would be nice to also have a sort of stand alone wash basin and pitcher in the tent to clean oneself up at night/in the rain without trekking to the toilet.
Overall a nice experience that gave us some much needed rest after many intense days of hiking.
