The Oaktagon Tree House on 1 Big Sustainable Island is amazing! The whole island is so cool. The accommodations, trails, canoes, sunrises, sunsets, the peace and quiet of nature all in one package. Kent is a great host. From the ferry ride out to the ferry ride back in, he has everything thought out for you. All you have to do is relax and enjoy. It was well worth the trip from California and got our vacation off to a great start.

Words don&#39;t describe how awesome 1 Big Sustainable Island is, and the people who run it. This fully sustainable 14 acre island was so relaxing and fun to stay at. We stayed in the A Frame and for four people it was an affordable escape. Some of the best parts: boat shuttle to the island by the owner who talked to you about the entire lakes history. The compostable toilets, rain barrel pump sinks and shower, are luxurious for camping and are actually truly sustainable (no greenwashing). Free firewood, canoes, and fresh water at your disposal. The trails around the island are fun and you definitely have to use the rope swing.<br>Remember, when here to follow leave no trace and sustainability guidelines. Do not leave trash and respect all aspects of nature to keep this place wild and sustainable.

What an adventure -- can't recommend enough! The island is on a beautiful lake. The A-Frame is super cute, comfortable, and with a lovely view of the woods and lake. Everything you can need is there -- especially some wonderful nature! And Kent was such a lovely host -- sharing stories about the local area, how this amazing island getaway came to be, and being very attentive of making sure we had everything we needed for a lovely stay. The island has plenty of beautiful paths for walking, and it's fun to cook outside under the gazebo. And the woodstove and blankets kept us toasty on some chilly fall nights! Def check it out if you're looking for an adventure to remember!

We had the most magical weekend at the 1BSI! The fall colors were so gorgeous around the lake this time of year. My boyfriend and I stayed in the A-Frame, which was extremely cozy and warm from the wood stove. We loved kayaking to some small islands nearby, reading on the lawn chairs on the south side of the island, watching sunsets from a very well-placed bench, grilling right outside of the A-frame, taking strolls (about a mile) around the whole island, and watching/listening to birds! Joanne and Kent also have two lovely dogs (Sky and Shadow!) who sweetly accompanied us on our ferry ride to the island. We would love to return to this idyllic and highly recommend anyone who is in need of some quiet rest and beauty!

Words will fall flat. 1BSI is magical. This was the perfect way for us to reconnect with the elements and tap into our inner (gl)amping souls. The island captivated us; from campfires, to sunset rock reads, to swimming and canoeing in the lake. The island is full of intentional design and landscape love - cultivated by Kent and Jo and their community. It’s special. The A-Frame is elegant and so comfortable. There is now a wood fire stove inside to heat it up! And the whole place is well equipped with all the gear, kitchen gadgets, and games you need. Kent was our host for the weekend and he was a joy to get to know. He helped us navigate the space and was a text away for anything (extra ice, help with the fire, a ferry off to see friends). He shared his love of the lake and island with us and we felt the respect for the land the whole time. We loved our stay. We will be back!
