The Island A-Frame is a gentle reminder that enough really is enough. Enough comfort, enough nature, enough quiet, and enough adventure to leave you feeling full instead of fried. Tucked into a wooded corner of 1 Big Sustainable Island, this cozy A-frame invites you to slow down: sleep deeply, cook simple meals, sway in a hammock, warm yourself by the woodstove, and listen as loons and crackling fires take turns filling the air.

We could not have asked for a better stay! I could not recommend a better place to go and unwind, relax, rejuvenate the mind and soul, and connect with nature! Kent is the best and even though you’re on an island, he makes it “All yours” while you are there! For a truly amazing experience, go to One Big Sustainable Island! You won’t regret it! Thank you Kent! Until next time!

We were supposed to go to Baxter State Park on our road trip with our dog but learned dogs were not allowed in the park so had to change our plans. SO glad we did! Staying on 1 Big Sustainable Island has been a highlight of our trip! Our dog had the time of her life and we were able to relax more than we have in a long time. Kent was very easy to communicate with and very accommodating. It was a joy riding over to the island and back with him and Sky the dog. The island was beautiful and time seemed to slow down there. I wish we could have stayed longer! Would highly recommend and we hope to be back again soon!
Perfect accommodations in a perfect setting. Communication was top notch. From the moment you park, you experience the thoughtfulness that has been put into getting you onto the island with all of your gear as well as the care and hard work that is put into making 1 Big Sustainable Island a special piece of Maine heaven, which still seems like a hidden secret gem. Thank you to the Ackleys for letting us in on the secret.
My two nieces and I went for an art retreat. It was an amazing time from start to finish. I really can’t think of a way to express it in a shorter amount of words than Steven King’s “The Stand” Kent made it a memory. Sounds dorky… but true.
We had a great time in the A Frame. The house was cozy and clean, and had everything we needed from cooking supplies to firewood. The island is beautiful and there are lots of fun things to do. Kent was super helpful and friendly and got us everything we needed throughout the weekend. We’d definitely recommend a visit to the island :)
My boyfriend and I had the most restful experience here. This place is absolutely magical! The island has so much to do and our weekend was full of swimming, reading, campfires, and enjoying the beautiful sunsets. Cannot recommend this experience enough. Kent is so kind and helpful and was so gracious and accommodating about boat rides to and from the island. You could spend the entire time on the island, but we explored the surrounding towns and got lobster rolls, ice cream, and visited several beautiful little antique stores. The only one who might have enjoyed herself more than us is our Aussiedoodle puppy Winnie. :)
Be prepared for great off-grid experience. To get the full effect, I would suggest 3 days or longer. Wife and I stayed 4 days. Lots to see and experince plus tons of PEACE.
- cooked everythring outdoors
- canoeing
- Lots of walks around the entire island
- card & board games
- long sleepy nights
Great way to take a break from daily rat race and reset life.
Jo and Kent's hospitality was superb! Visiting the little Big Island was an incredibly unique experience that I would recommend to all glamping connoisseurs. Set among the backdrop of a beautiful Maine landscape, the A-frame was the perfect place to relax and disconnect. Looking forward to returning in the summertime!
This is an incredible place. Kent was a great host, and made sure we had everything we needed. Even though it was rainy and cold one day, we were cozy with the A-Frame's wood stove, and were happy to find an umbrella, plenty of extra firewood, and cozy blankets.
