Celebrating my 40th at 1BSI was more than just a retreat—it was a transformative journey on a magical island where the lines between reality and enchantment blur. Tucked away on 14 acres, every nook of the island resonated with an ethereal charm.
The moments spent reconnecting with my siblings, from kayaking to meditation and spotting a magnificent eagle, were elevated by the island's inherent magic.
Kent, the driving force behind 1BSI, goes above and beyond, making each stay truly legendary. His passion ensures every guest leaves with memories bathed in the island's unique mystique.
For anyone looking for a blend of sustainable living and enchantment, 1BSI beckons. Even composting toilets, a feature of its eco-friendliness, weren't that bad at all! A heartfelt thanks to Kent and the entire 1BSI community for crafting such a magical experience.

This is an amazing stay for a Maine island experience….comfortable accommodations with all the basic needs provided. Cooking is easy. The swimming is nice and the included paddling options are a bonus!
With a bad weather forecast, Kent allowed us to come a day early at the last minute which created more work for him. He truly desires that his guests have a great experience.
Will certainly come again.

This is the BEST Airbnb we have ever stayed at. The most peaceful place in New England. We spent time kayaking (free!) exploring the island and watching the sunset. The Octagon House really blew us away! You can even stay for the day after check out and continue to enjoy the island! We will be back next month and every month from now until the end of time. Thank you Kent and crew for everything you do! Keep up the efforts in saving the Loons :)

Not only was the island beautiful, Kent was an incredible host. We had the pleasure of talking with him as he explained all the innovative ways in which he has transformed the island to be sustainable. I would highly recommend this adventure to expert and novice campers alike, we had an amazing time there.

What a wonderful time! From canoeing out to the island, to the informational and fun signs around, to having a real live tree in the middle of the yurt, this was a fantastic stay. The yurt was beautifully made, and had a thoughtful gate so our pup could explore the big deck on his own. We had fun hiking around the island with our toddler, and saw some loons and herons while canoeing. We certainly hope to be back!

1BSI is really a magical place! It is like you are literally transported to another time. After a pleasant ferry ride, walking to the Oaktagon Tree House was nice, and it didn’t disappoint. Kent was super helpful with everything and made us feel right at home. Our weather wasn’t what we hoped, but it was an amazing location to just take it easy. Definitely visit Sunset Rock, it was gorgeous. Cooking options were great, we took advantage of cooking over the fire pit, propane grill and super nice to have an indoor stove! Bed, futons, hammocks… all very comfortable. We hope to come back again!
