Amazing place and people. Lots of magic on this little island. Our hosts were beyond accommodating and helpful. The Aframe was so amazing and comfy and Kent and Jo’s place and vision are inspiring. They supply plenty of fresh water, the potties were sweet, and the lake was clean and refreshing. Very family friendly. The experience definitely exceeded high expectations.

This place is amazing! Super cool experience to spend 4 nights in the A frame on 1 Big Sustainable Island. We had a blast exploring on canoes, swimming, and just hanging out on the beach. Jo and Kent were great hosts, offering up assistance with transporting gear and local knowledge/history about the lake. Beds were comfortable in the A-frame. Definitely one of the coolest AirBnB spots we have stayed in. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for an off-the-grid camping adventure!

Charles and I stayed in the A-frame for 3 nights and had a lovely experience! The island was peaceful and the lake was so clean and refreshing. 1BSI is a special place and we are grateful to Jo and Kent for sharing it with us. Unlimited access to canoes, kayaks, and swimming were all we really wanted from a vacation away from the city. Jo and Kent did a good job social distancing and explaining their procedures and policies for making their space safe for visitors. The island trails were well thought out, with well-placed benches, boulders, hammocks, chairs, and docks for relaxing, reading, and accessing the water. The composting bathrooms were kept very clean throughout our stay, and Jo and Kent were always responsive and nearby in case we needed anything. We hope to be back in the future!

Our second stay on the island and did not disappoint! We always look forward to our trip to Joanne and Kent's place. It's the perfect getaway, they are the nicest people on earth, and our dogs love roaming the island free. Looking forward to being back next year!

Jo and Kent are great hosts. They were always just a text away for anything we needed, and gave us privacy so that we really felt like we had an island to ourselves. The island itself is absolutely beautiful. Some of our favorite parts were swimming at loon point, watching the turtles and loons and seeing the sunset and feeling all of the changes on the lake as it went down. The a-frame had everything we needed to make meals and the bed in the loft was cozy. Our dog, Ruben also had an incredible time exploring and playing with Sky. He even learned how to swim! It was a wonderful getaway to unplug and feel closer to nature. I highly recommend!

Jo and Kent truly love what they do! In addition to amazing campsites nestled in the trees, hiking, boating, and swimming, you can expect environmentally conscious designs and the best of nature that Maine has to offer.

Kent and Joanne were fantastic hosts. The island itself is gorgeous, submerged in Maine’s well-known nature with beautiful surrounding waters. Highly recommend canoeing on the lakes and exploring other nearby islands.

Beautiful accommodations, and a beautiful location. This island is an experiment in community and sustainability, and is really an enjoyable get-away. I wouldn't recommend bringing a small dog, or a dog that is shy around big dogs, but if you have a gregarious beast, they would have an excellent time roaming the island with the host dogs.
